Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) is a compound produced through recombinant DNA technology. It serves as the main mediator for the growth-promoting effects of human growth hormone. Consequently, IGF-1 can stimulate the growth of bones, muscles, and internal organs. Its effects on skeletal muscle are notably hyperplasic, resulting in an increase in cell numbers. However, unlike human growth hormone, IGF-1 demonstrates potent insulin-like effects. It promotes growth by enhancing the uptake of amino acids, glucose, and fatty acids, but it can lower blood sugar levels so effectively that excessive doses may lead to severe hypoglycemia.

Among the additional anabolic effects of IGF-1 in the body are increases in protein synthesis, nitrogen retention, and the stimulation of more muscle fiber growth. These physiological processes can occur when there is an adequate supply of amino acids (proteins). Research has shown that IGF-1 may enhance collagen production and contribute to the regeneration of joint cartilage. Moreover, the hormone is noted for its neuroprotective and promoting properties, primarily due to the presence of IGF-1 receptors in brain tissue. Evidence suggests that supplementation with IGF-1 may slow the progression of certain brain diseases and help maintain cognitive function in some elderly individuals.

As for IGF-1 dosing, users have reported favorable outcomes with daily doses ranging from 100 to 160 mcg. Typically, this total dosage is divided into several injections, most of which are likely administered after workouts.
